A proprietors' blend assembled from our very best barrels hand choosen after many blending trials. this vintage is a blend of 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, a wine made in the classic tradition of the Graves style Bordeaux Blanc. Our special Queen of white wine is 100% barrel fermented in small French oak barrels to add great complexity. Some people say this is "the white wine for red wine drinkers."
We often hear comments that our Eleanor is one of the most interesting and complex Californian white wines: Full of refreshing citrus with notes of pink grapefruit to balance the richness and nuance of French oak. Flavors of ripe peaches, cantaloupe and medjool dates and a long finish with a hint of pears. Favorite pairing: Pan Seared Sea Scallops.

When Eleanor of Aquitaine married Henry II in the twelfth century, her inheritance of Bordeaux and the Graves regions of France passed to the English crown and remained a prized possession for nearly 3 centuries. And for hundreds of years the English speaking world has loved the wines of the area, from English merchants and aristocrats (Downton Abbey fans may recall images of Carson the butler painstakingly decanting a precious claret in the candlelit wine cellar) to Thomas Jefferson.
In her time, there were rumors surrounding Eleanor's life; her association with the Courts of love where the arts of the Troubadours flourished was both scandalous and controversial. But since the accounts were often written by monks they tended to be not so much historical narratives as moral teachings. There are still gaps in the evidence and she remains tantalizingly elusive

Selected vineyard lots are fermented in French oak and sur-lie aged for 9 months. The very best barrels are hand selected and final blend proportions are determined from an extensive tasting series, after many hours of work by the winemaking staff and the proprietors. This blend gains complexity as it ages, we recommend drinking this 2 to 5 years from the vintage date.
