2008 Sauvignon Blanc

Gold Medal - Mendocino County Fair

Our 16th vintage out of our hillside vineyard that we call Randle Hill. Randle is Deborah's maiden name. This vineyard has consistently produced one of the best SBs around and we're very proud of it. It is our answer to Sauvignon Blah. Barrel fermented and aged our SB has aromas of pineapple and lime, with an underlaying earthy note. Finishes with a blast of lime and minerals. Outstanding with virtually any fish dish or as an aperitif. Click to Continue

2007 Semillon

90 points & Best of Class - California State Fair
With limited plantings in California, it is becoming difficult to find Semillon bottled separately. However this is our 15th consecutive vintage release. This wine is bright and refreshing, with pear skin, coriander seed and vanilla bean aromas. Rich mid-palate with apricot, lime zest and honey-comb notes in a long dry finish. A favorite grape of our local wild boar; we have to fight to keep our share!  Click to Continue

2007 Eleanor of Aquitaine

Best of Class - California State Fair
A proprietors blend assembled from our very best barrels hand chosen after many blending trials. This vintage is a blend of half Semillon and half Sauvignon Blanc, a wine made in the classic tradition of the Graves style Bordeaux Blanc. Our special Queen of white wine is 100% barrel fermented in small French oak barrels to add great complexity. Some people say this is "the white wine for red wine drinkers."

2007 Cabernet Franc

Gold Medal - San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

92 points - FB World Panel Score

A grape that is getting noticed a bit more these days - this is a delicious example of that "other" Cabernet, which is actually a much older grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon. Typically aromatic, with jalapeno (or sweet red pepper), smoky-paprika and violets on the nose. Good length, with rich dark cherry fruit flavors, velvety texture and medium tannins to finish. Nicely balanced and showing very well for a young wine. Click to Continue

2006 Carmenere

Silver Medal - International Green Wine Competition

Only the second vintage of this rare wine for us at Yorkville Cellars - this is a grape that was once widely grown in Bordeaux but for decades considered nearly extinct until it was re-discovered through DNA testing in Chile. An extremely rare grape in California, you're not likely to find another Carmenere wine produced here. Similar to a richer, more aromatic Merlot, this wine has blueberry and boysenberry fruit, and aromas of celery seeds and roasted meat. Click to Continue

2007 Merlot

Gold Medal - San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

92 points - FB World Panel Score

Merlot has fallen a bit out of favor in America recently. Yet it continues to be the #1 grape planted in Bordeaux and it therefore is important in some of the most expensive wines in the world. Light herbal aromas, with spice and berries. Bright red fruit- cherry to boysenberry, splash of cranberry. Medium bodied mid-palate, but a structured finish, with a smooth mouthfeel and some lingering tannins. Click to Continue

2007 Malbec

91 points - FB World Panel Score

We’re seeing more and more Malbec on the shelves in fine wine shops – mostly from Argentina, where they have 50,880 acres planted. In Bordeaux in southwestern France where it originated, Malbec continues to be a traditional blending grape. Regrettably, there are only 1,216 bearing Malbec acres out of a total of 475,219 acres of vineyard in California. We're certainly happy that we have some as it makes a terrific wine! 2006 Petit Verdot

Double Gold Medal - San Francisco Wine Competition
A late ripening grape, usually the last that we pick. There continues to be very few Petit Verdot wines produced in California.
Ours has great aromas: spice, candlewood and berry notes. Plum and cherry fruit flavors mid-palate, and a smooth, rich finish with medium tannins. With our 2006 vintage you have the choice of drinking it now or waiting. The other night we enjoyed a 1997 vintage out of our library with roast pork and can confirm Petit Verdot ages well. 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points - FB World Panel Score

Mainly raspberry and herbal aromas with a touch of earthiness. Elegant with a smooth, velvety mouth-feel, but some drying tannins that help make it very food friendly. Flavors are red fruits predominately with boysenberry and a hint of chocolate in finish. Click to Continue

2006 Richard the Lion-Heart

94 points - FB World Panel Score

Our Richard the Lion-Heart is carefully blended, using the very best barrels of our certified organic estate grown grapes. The 2006 vintage includes six varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere. This is very likely the only estate grown, California wine blended made with all six of the traditional noble red grape varietals originally from the Bordeaux area of western France. Wine critics typically compare it favorably to wines at twice the price and even more, so it represents terrific Mendocino "bang for the buck." Click to Continue
