2006 Carmenere

See our complete wine selection

Only the second vintage of this rare wine for us at Yorkville Cellars . The "lost" red grape of the Bordeaux region and nearly extinct there, but then rediscovered in Chile, where there are over 13,000 acres growing. In California it is an extremely rare grape with only 59 bearing acres. Similar to a richer, more aromatic Merlot, this wine has blueberry and boysenberry fruit, and aromas of celery seeds and roasted meat. Bright cherry and medium tannins to finish, making it an excellent food wine.

Due to individual state regulations we can only ship to the following 30 states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming and to the District of Columbia. We can also ship internationally, however it's pretty expensive.

Winemaker's notes

Harvested on Oct  31st, grapes were gently crushed, and cold soaked for three days before innoculation. Fermentation in tank was completed in 16 days, and then the wine was gently pressed and racked to French oak barrels for ageing. After 20 months in oak, the wines were settled, fined, and gently filtered before bottling. Delicious now, or hold 2-5 years.
